I DUN SOME WEB DESIGN! W00T!
Yea so I havent done any web design or web building for a good long time now. WelIl mean outside of stuff I get up to at woik of course! http://www.hellcatproductions.co.uk/ This here site is a little something I put together for my wonderful G-friend Katharine Heath (also known as Kat! Heath! – depending on what work-hat she has on that day) and her business partner Eleanor Wdowski, who with there powers combined create… Hellcat Productions.
The site was a bit of ’stick it up there quick’ kinda affair, as their most recent project La Prima Donna was accepted into Latitude Festival, and they needed a web presence quick! A quick overview of my approach on this would be:
- get general content and feel of company, ingest their ideas as to what they wanted from it
- highlight my own understanding of current strengths in their aesthetic, work this into a big mood .png
- mark out some content areas, for this project i decided to go with a rough 16col 960 grid (i think!)
- start making, collecting weird and wonderful objects to make the eye catching header
- spec out bold coloured areas to focus users attention on the minimal, vital content
- start whacking it all together!
This is a bit of a semantic shambles on the inside – the idea being get something up that kinda does the job – fix it later when everyone has more time!
The other interesting thing about this project, and its something I have been dying to try out for ages, was the use of CushyCMS http://www.cushycms.com/ Apart from having the cutest name going in content management systems, CushyCMS’s USP is allowing basic content management on simple sites that dont require any in-depth understanding of programming n’that! Check out the site for more info, as they ain’t paying me for this shining endorsement – suffice to say almost all of the content on Hellcat site is easily editable for Kat and Ellie with only a few addition classes in the html.
